Transforming Business Education through Sustainable Development Goals and Curriculum Innovation
Saturday August 8, 2020 3:30-5:30 EDT Session 576 (MED, ONE, MSR)
A Virtual Asynchronous Session
(please accept my apology for multiple listings)
Please join us in exploring multiple pathways your business school can take, and our schools and others are taking, to meet the most pressing global challenge facing our species– creating a sustainable/flourishing/regenerating world.
Come see and hear distinguished invited speakers Stu Hart of the University of Vermont, and Angie Fuessel of Ashoka. The session is chaired by Jeana Wirtenberg and presenters include Charles Fenner, Morgane Fritz, Sharon Hellman, Linda Irwin, Chris Laszlo, Florencia Librizzi, Michael Pirson, Ken Sagendorf, Jim Stoner, and James Weichert.
We will share three complementary approaches to transforming business education and research. The approaches use the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) and social innovation, as inspired and guided by ASHOKA, to transform curricula and research to move away from the Business As Usual (BAU) bias of much business education.
One approach offers three different practical tools for developing leadership for a sustainable world. Another is grounded in a humanistic based alternative to the dominant BAU narrative and emphasizes developing faculty members as change agents. The third approach starts by going down to "bare metal" to align all required intro courses in each business discipline with the need for a sustainable world.
Please join is for our session from 3:30-5:30 on Saturday, August 8, and then for an ongoing set of chat conversations throughout the month. Our session is asynchronous -- meaning you can watch and listen to our pre-recorded session and enter your comments in the chat box – and download our supplemental "take-aways" – during that 3:30-5:30 window and afterwards.
Please be sure to come back any time for the recorded session to continue the chat – we will check in periodically as long as the session is available so we can follow-up on comments and queries you enter in the chat box throughout August. And you are more than welcome to contact any of us.
We look forward to chatting with you as we all collaborate in our shared goal of inspiring and enabling business school leadership to meet the greatest challenge our species has ever faced.
