40th year anniversary of Journal of Business Ethics

    Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that 2022 is the 40th year anniversary of the founding of Journal of Business Ethics. To commemorate this date, the Editors-in-Chief of the journal have invited JBE editors to provide commentaries on the future of business ethics. These commentaries are thematically grouped into five essays around the future of business ethics. They discuss the ethical and social role of business in terms of global and local challenges, technology, megatrends, work, the politics of academic knowledge production and empirical research, shedding new light on the age-old question of the compatibility of ethics and business.

To introduce these essays, Professor Laura Spence has provided an editorial that touches on the journal's founding aims, its emphasis on the centrality of ethics in social life and its support for the diversification of the theories, methodological approaches and perspectives, to enrich the business ethics conversation and practice for "a better world" (Spence, 2022, p.1). You can read these essays and introductory editorial at the Journal of Business Ethics 40th Anniversary Issue page on the JBE website or in the 180-3 issue of the journal.

Please feel free to share these links with all who are interested in ethics in business and society. We hope you enjoy these essays as much as we have enjoyed curating them. A huge shout out of appreciation to our fantastic editor team who have shown their vision and scholarship through these excellent commentaries and our wonderful supporters in Springer Nature. We look forward to many more years of robust, insightful and fruitful conversations which "will allow people with diverse views, opinions, knowledge, insights, prescriptions and proscriptions to make their case and that will allow the other side (any other side) to respond" (Michalos, 1982).

    Kind regards,

    Michelle Greenwood and Gazi Islam
