Dear colleagues,
Join us next Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET for our next Ethics in Business Seminar. Alejo Sison (University of Navarra, Spain, and Visiting Scholar at Fordham this year) will present his paper "A Guide for the Sorcerer's Apprentice: Designing a Human-Centered, Virtue-Focused Approach to AI in Business."
You can attend in person (Dealy Hall, Room 305, Rose Hill Campus) or virtually (please kindly
RSVP here
).
Below is an abstract and short bio.
Abstract:
How do we ensure AI serves the twin goals of human welfare and flourishing in business? Mere value alignment is not enough because algorithms, though crucial, are just one element of the AI system. AI systems are tools, not ends in themselves, and to use them properly means subjecting them to human purposes. Virtues are key to this endeavor. This talk offers key insights to frame ethical issues involving AI in business.
Bio:
Alejo José G. Sison, Ph.D., holds appointments from the School of Economics of the University of Navarre and accreditation as Catedrático (Full Professor) from the Spanish state university system. He was President of the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) from 2009 to 2012. In 2019 he was elected to the board of the Society for Business Ethics and was President from 2022-2023. He ranks among the top 2% of the world's researchers in Applied Ethics and Business and Management. He is currently spending his sabbatical year 2025-2026 as a Visiting Professor at the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University.
Hope to see you there!
Miguel
