    https://haas.berkeley.edu/sustainability/thought-leadership/faculty-research/haas-sustainable-business-research-prize/

    PURPOSE

This Haas Sustainable Business Research Prize, supported by Allan Spivack, encourages serious research with timely, real-world business practice applications among business school faculty around the world related to responsible business, sustainability, and ESG. Additionally, the prize will motivate thought leadership globally and add to the body of knowledge and intellectual capital in the role of business in society.

The prize will be awarded by a committee of well-regarded sustainability researchers and practitioners affiliated with the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business who will choose best in class academic studies to win a combined $20,000 prize.

    PRIZE FOCUS

The Haas Sustainable Business Research Prize seeks to recognize the most significant research papers with the greatest potential to catalyze immediate change in business management practices in the face of urgent global environmental crises.

    2023 TOPIC

The Haas Sustainable Business Research Prize is seeking papers (both in progress and published) that speak to the intersection of individual and market behavior and sustainability. Recognizing that the global market is acting insufficiently to address the pending crisis associated with climate change and resource sustainability, we seek papers that explore economic levers that motivate individuals, corporations and markets to act with urgency on climate and resource saving initiatives.

The 2023 Haas Sustainable Business Research Prize will recognize cutting-edge research that identifies implementable solutions that impact the nexus of business, economics, and sustainability.

    ELIGIBILITY

Both published papers and working papers globally are eligible. Working papers should be of a quality suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed academic journal. Studies will be considered for the Prize only once. Past winners are welcome to enter the competition with new work, and multiple submissions from an author/group of authors are accepted.

    JUDGING

The prize-winning study is selected by a committee of faculty judges from the Haas School of Business. Honorable mentions or additional monetary prizes may be awarded at the judges' and award organizers' discretion.

    Judging criteria include:

    • Significance of applicability to industry and practitioners

    • Innovativeness of research question and approach

    • Appropriateness and rigor of research methods

    SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Submit an anonymized (only include title; remove author names) PDF of your paper at: https://haas.berkeley.edu/sustainability/thought-leadership/faculty-research/haas-sustainable-business-research-prize/ by Sunday, August 13, 2023 11:59PM PST (GMT -7).

The winning study's author(s) will be notified in September 2023 and invited to participate in a relevant convening (to be confirmed) where the prize will be awarded. They will also be featured in the California Management Review's CMR Insights. The winning paper(s) author(s) will receive a monetary award of up to $20,000.
