Employment with Justice, 2: Theology of the Workplace and Allied Perspectives Inquiry

    Professional Development Workshop Proposal

Potential Sponsors for the 2026 Academy of Management Conference:

    CMS, MH, MSR, SIM

Continuing from the 2025 PDW offering, with gratitude for sponsor support from MSR and other Divisions, we plan to submit a 2026 PDW offering by the scholars listed below with tentative topics.

This year, we thought to also solicit additional contributors through Division discussion boards for greater national / topical diversity and inclusion. While we've not got a single theoretical focus, the Theology of the Workplace concept can embrace any suitable topic having implications for ultimate meanings and values in the workplace.

Each presenter will review origins and current implications in light of extant management and justice theories of the workplace according to the sponsoring Divisions. The workshop envisions a two-hour time frame, with 10 – 15 minute presentations, brief clarifications, and a concluding discussion phase about future collaborative steps either in groups or all together as participant numbers suggest.

    Tentative Topics and Presenters:

Hope in the Context of Leadership Development for Authentic Professionalism

    Susan Fairchild, Independent Scholar

Does Trumpism Imply Restoration of Slavery or Servitude? Explorations of Work Programs in Prisons and Detention Centers, Possible Complicity in Sex Trafficking, and Invidious Distinctions Among Americans

    David Jacobs, American University

Female and Non-regular Employment in Denmark and Japan

    Toyoko Sato, Copenhagen Business School

The Unexamined Origins and Social Costs of U.S. "Employment at Will" Judicial Precedent for Employees

Charles Thomas Tackney, Copenhagen Business School.

If you are interested in presenting, please send me an email noting the research issue, a few sentences of explanation, proposed Division(s) and your affiliation by November 15. They'll be a consensus by the current team on inclusion depending on responses.
