Interested in exploring how venturing can be used to address societal issues?

Join us for the Showcase Symposium: The Role of Community in Venturing for a Better World Together at AoM on August 8th, 2022, 10:00AM – 12:00 PM Pacific Time (UTC-7)

Despite their importance to organizations and new ventures, community stakeholders are often treated as exogenous contextual variables within research. In this panel symposium, we advocate for viewing community as a passive or active embedded partner in the entrepreneurial process. Using this agentic view of community, the speakers in our symposium discuss approaches to conduct research at the intersection of community and entrepreneurship to “create a better world together”. The symposium will close with a brainstorming session regarding future research questions designed to elevate and refine scholarship at the intersection of community, entrepreneurship, and positive social change.

The intent of this panel symposium is to bring together scholars at the intersection of social entrepreneurship and community research to propose a foundation for additional research at this nexus. We have designed the symposium with the overarching aims to discuss:
    1) how community is both theoretically and methodologically incorporated into social entrepreneurship scholarship,
    2) the community’s role in measuring outcomes that align with the notion of “creating a better world together”, and
    3) outline future directions for ENT researchers.
