    Dear Asian Scholars and Friends,

We hope this email finds you in high spirits. We are beyond excited to invite you to the third monthly gathering of "Voices of Asian Diaspora," where we come together as a vibrant community to conquer the unique challenges faced by Asian individuals at the Academy of Management (AOM) and beyond. We're here to create a safe space where you can connect with others who share your experiences, receive the resources you need, and have a whole lot of fun!

As our group continues to grow, we're thrilled to announce that our upcoming meeting will focus on "Navigating the Mega Conference!" Yes, we're talking about AOM, the conference that can feel like an exhilarating rollercoaster ride-exciting yet overwhelming. But fear not! We've got your back and we're here to ensure you not only survive but thrive during this grand adventure.

Now, let's dive into some exciting and practical tips for our first-time attendees, junior scholars, and seasoned experts:

    • Define your conference goals: Forget about trying to do it all! Instead, let's focus on setting specific goals that will make your AOM experience unforgettable.
    • Expand Your Networking Horizontally (and unleash the fun!): Networking and inspiration at AOM can significantly enhance your research productivity. Don't miss the chance to form lifelong friendships and valuable contacts for your work. Guest speakers via Zoom or visiting scholars you connect with through the AOM network can become mentors and role models, guiding you throughout your academic journey. While reaching for your academic goals is important, mingling with attendees at all levels is equally crucial. Prepare for unexpected connections, laughter-filled conversations, and career-altering moments. Embrace the power of networking and be open to new perspectives, as they have the potential to shape your research trajectory.
    • Craft a Short Research Pitch: Get ready to rock your elevator pitch! We'll spend some time during the gathering practicing and polishing your pitch, ensuring you captivate and engage your audience with your brilliance and humor.
    • Attend Sessions wisely: From captivating symposia and mind-blowing paper sessions to exhilarating professional development workshops (PDWs) and division socials, we'll help you navigate the exciting array of AOM sessions and events. There's something for everyone!
    • Engage with your division and volunteer: Don't miss the opportunity to connect with the fabulous leaders of your division during their business meetings and social events. Plus, we'll share insider tips on how volunteering can enhance your AOM experience.
    • Take advantage of the magical AoM Annual Meeting App. It's your key to updating yourself on leading-edge research, networking opportunities, and research collaboration.
    • Job Market Readiness: For those embarking on the job market journey, we've got you covered! We'll provide insights, strategies, and support to help you shine bright and land your dream position.

And lastly, let's not forget to address some of the possible challenges that may arise. We believe in fostering an open and inclusive environment where we can have insightful discussions and learn from one another's experiences. During our meeting, we would like to explore how to handle potential challenges like cliques, occasional "snobbery," division politics, and participants' comments that may not be constructive. These experiences are part of the broader AOM landscape, and by having an open conversation, we can share strategies, support each other, and navigate these situations with grace and resilience.
