STUDYING CASTE IN BUSINESS AND SOCIETY

Paper Development Workshop (PDW) for the Special Issue at Business & Society

Date: 13th March 2024                      Time: 2:30 IST-4:00 IST                  Format: Online

Caste is central to many aspects of business and society such as access to resources and social networks, wages, socioeconomic mobility, labour, occupational choices, global value chains, migration, stigma and discrimination, equal opportunity, and diversity in the workplace, etc. The special issue encourages scholarly work to help develop a fuller understanding of the role and influence of caste in business and society, as a field.

Full details of the call for papers for the special issue can be found here. To support potential authors, the Special Issue's editors are organizing a paper development workshop.

    WORKSHOP FORMAT

The workshop will be held online only and will be structured in two parts.

    1.     The first part is open to all participants and will cover a brief presentation from the guest editors on the theme of the special issue, and expectations from potential submissions to the journal. There will also be time for Q&A from the audience.

    2.     The second part is open to only selected participants, whose short papers are accepted for this session. This is to facilitate an opportunity to receive feedback on working papers ahead of submission to the Special Issue. The participants will be organized into breakout rooms with a member of the editorial team chairing the discussion. Participants will receive detailed feedback on their papers on behalf of the editorial team; and from other participants. It is expected that participants will provide feedback to other members of their breakout room.

Please register for the workshop here. To be considered for the second part of the workshop, please submit a proposal of up to 6-pages in length (double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, and 12-point font; excluding references and exhibits) outlining your paper's research question, conceptual and theoretical framework, methods (if any), findings (if any), and potential contributions.

Deadline for registration and submission of abstracts: 7th February 2024

The editorial team is committed to including diverse voices and perspectives in the special issue, and we welcome interest from authors engaging with non-mainstream theoretical paradigms, contexts, and phenomena. We welcome both conceptual and empirical work; as well as a variety of methodological approaches across the qualitative-quantitative spectrum.

Please note that participation in this session is not a pre-requisite for submission to the Special Issue; nor is participation an assurance of a favourable review decision.
