R:ETRO Seminar Series
Reputation: Ethics, Trust, and Relationships at Oxford
Dear All,
Please join us online on Thursday 26 February for the third R:ETRO seminar of this term, hosted by the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation.
Mike Zundel, Professor in Organization Studies, University of Liverpool Management School will be presenting: Feedback and the question of organization beyond stability
Abstract:
Feedback is central to all forms of organization. I want to explore the intellectual background of feedback in terms of three themes: engineering, epistemology and politics. While management and organization studies has shed much light on the self-stabilizing (homeostatic) engineering aspect of feedback, these themes indicate research gaps around epistemological and political implications relating to self-organization and hyper-control. Drawing on examples of so-called grand challenges, climate change and viral outbreaks, as well as the rise of networked computational and intelligent decision makers affording real-time adaptation, I argue for the importance of a renewed interest in feedback in organization studies and in particular how organization can afford slow processes of learning, reflection and possible deviation to equilibria and stability.
