The SIM Curriculum Development Team has created "SIMbytes," which are very short videos from SIM contributors. Each video contains 1 piece of advice on teaching, research, whatever the contributor felt like sharing with the community.
In this month's SIMByte, Dr. Ed Freeman addresses the growing trend among doctoral students and early career researchers to prioritize journal rankings over intellectual growth. He notes that while lists like the FT50 are important, "chasing the journals" has begun to overshadow the primary mission of developing impactful ideas. Freeman argues that prioritizing useful and meaningful ideas is the central role of an intellectual.
