    PAMPLIN COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

    DEPARTMENT HEAD OF MANAGEMENT

    The Department of Management in the R. B. Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) seeks applications for the position of department head.

    Applicants should have the following qualifications:

      • A doctorate in management or a related field from an accredited university
      • Substantial experience and capabilities as a faculty member in graduate and undergraduate Management instruction at an AACSB-accredited business school
      • Interest and successful experience working with a diverse student body
      • A program of scholarly research and publication consistent with appointment as tenured, full professor
      • Previous administrative experience in directing academic programs or departments is preferred
      • Especially well qualified candidates may be eligible for consideration for an endowed Pamplin Professorship  

    Responsibilities of the Department Head include:

      • Sharpening the department's strategic objectives and vision of the future
      • Leading efforts to enhance the character and quality of the department's academic programs
      • Maintaining an environment conducive for the continuance of quality research, teaching, and service,
      • Administering all personnel, budget, program, equipment, and facility matters related to the department
      • Leading the development of external relations with the business community
      • Representing the Management Department administratively in the College of Business and the University

    Application Procedure:

    Virginia Tech, located in Blacksburg, Virginia, is the land grant university of Virginia and the largest university in the state.  With over 25,000 students, it offers very strong programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

    The Department of Management has 20 faculty members and offers programs leading to Ph.D., M.B.A., and B.S. Degrees. The department offers instruction in business strategy, organization theory, entrepreneurship, business ethics, leadership, organizational behavior, human resources management, labor relations, technology management, and international management. The Pamplin College of Business has been accredited by the AACSB since 1966.  The management student body is comprised of 400 undergraduate majors and 15 Ph.D. students.  Additionally, the management faculty contributes extensively to the college's MBA, EMBA, PMBA and Management & Professional Development (executive education) programs.
