AOM PDW: Cross-Sector Partnerships for Sustainable Product Standards

Sorry for multiple postings in different AOM lists, but...

Are you interested in cross sector partnerships for global product
    sustainability standards?

If so, this PDW is for you as we will explore a particular cross-sector
effort—The Sustainability Consortium (TSC)—initiated by The University of
Arkansas, Arizona State, and Walmart in 2009 to establish a framework for
defining sustainable products. In the launch announcement, Walmart CEO Mike
Duke laid out the rationale from Walmart’s perspective, “We don’t know the
patterns, hidden costs, and impacts of the products we make and sell. Nor do
we have a single source of data or a common standard for evaluating the
sustainability of products. We need that big picture view.” The Consortium
    would help with that.

In prior years, the PDW has emphasized the interaction between academics and
practitioners. This year is no exception, as representatives from three
different sectors—The University of Arkansas, Walmart, and Environmental
Defense Fund—will present the case of TSC. After that, University of South
Carolina professor Hildy Teegen will conduct a facilitated discussion and
engage attendees with the panelists. During the remainder of the PDW,
participants will engage in a variety of activities aimed at generating
    future research or practice projects.

We hope you can make it! The session is scheduled for Saturday afternoon
from 2:15 until 6:15 in the Coronado Springs Resort, Fiesta 1&2.

If you would like to learn more about the TSC before the session, here is

are two case studies about the consortium (from Walmart’s perspective),
