I'm trying to help a couple of doctoral students orient themselves to research in the SIM field. I wonder if folks on this list could point me to useful overview articles/chapters or to authoritative handbook-type volumes on the state of SIM research today.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Paul:
At the risk of being accused of shameless self-promotion, you might suggest the Oxford Handbook of Corporate Social Responsibility:

    Paul,
I was just looking for something similar, and found the following to be
at least among the most recent and comprehensive (I'm still looking for
something even more recent and more focused specifically on business
    ethics):

    Whetten, D., Rands, G. & Godfrey, P. 2002. What are the
Responsibilities of Business to Society? In Pettigrew, A., Thomas, H. &
Whittington, R. (Eds.), /Handbook of Strategy and Management/. London:
    Sage.

Do post any other suggestions you receive? Thanks and happy new year!

Paul - I believe the definitive work that should be required reading for any
graduate student interested in SIM is William C. Frederick's Corporation, Be
Good! The Story of Corporate Social Responsibility. Indianapolis, IN: Dog
Ear Publishing, 2006, but contact Bill directly at billfred@katz.pitt.edu.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

    Dear Paul

You may look at the following review articles and handbooks. As you will see
SIM is very diversified and it is difficult to include all the various
perspectives and schools of thought into one article. But I think this list
should be quite comprehensive and up-to-date.

    Hope this helps.

PS: I apologize to those SIM scholars whose authoritative review articles or
handbooks are missing on this list. This is due to my lack of knowledge. Any
suggestions on how to complete this list are welcome.
