Hello SIM-ians!
I hope this note finds everyone well and enjoying their summer. If you are looking for a new case that can span a variety of topics in your courses and that students will get excited about (within reason...) I have just published a case with Ivey titled:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Cultural Viability
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) promotes the hugely popular sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) and is at a turning point. The case focuses on the decision the CEO has to make regarding potential international expansion of the organization to China, India and South Korea.
Specifically, you can use the case to address the following topics:
- The difficulty inherent in determining if a potential market (i.e. international location) will be a cultural fit for a product or service
- Competitive advantage
- Strategic development
- Analyzing the external environment
- Government regulation
- The impact a leader has on organizational expansion
- Brand development and management
Further information about the case can be found here: http://cases.ivey.uwo.ca/Cases/Pages/home.aspx?Mode=showproduct&prod=9B11M040 and if you are interested in a copy of the case please email me at: tara@sandiego.edu and I will get one to you.
All the best,
Tara
