Colleagues,
Santa Clara University is hosting a unique global conference for professors of business ethics from Jesuit and other universities on July 11-13, 2019. We already have participation from faculty and universities in East and South Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. We now want to open up this event to faculty at any religiously-based university, and to faculty at other schools who have an interest in religion, spirituality and business ethics.
There is also still time to present a paper at this conference. The extended deadline for paper proposals is April 1. Over 25 proposals have already been submitted.
The conference will feature two days for the participating academics, and a full day of speeches and panels featuring Silicon Valley executives active in the internet and other disruptive technologies. The theme, The Ethics of Disruption, seems particularly well timed!
The conference is co-sponsored by four organizations: Santa Clara's Leavey School of Business and Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, plus two global organizations, Colleagues in Jesuit Business Education (CJBE) and the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools.
The conference will have a unique format. On Day One, faculty will visit two Silicon Valley corporations to talk with executives about ethical issues facing those companies. On Day Two, a large group of Silicon Valley executives will join the academic participants for a day of panels and dialogue. Day three will be dedicated to academic presentations by faculty on the Ethics of Disruption and the general theme of how Ignatian and religious spirituality informs the study of business management. The conference will end with a gala dinner at a local winery.
We hope you will consider attending. A Call for Papers is online here. As noted, the deadline for paper proposals is now April 1.
A Conference Website with registration can be accessed here. Many of your questions are answered there. Registration for the conference is now open. The website also provides information on housing, both on-campus and off.
Questions regarding submissions and presentation of papers can be directed to: conferencepapers@scu.edu. General inquiries about the conference can be directed to: ethicsconference@scu.edu.
