PDW on Databases for Research on Environmental Management and Corporate Social Responsibility

    Date and Time: Sunday, Aug 10th, 10:30AM - 12:30PM

    Location: <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Anaheim</st1:city></st1:place> Marriott, Platinum 9

Sponsored by ONE, SIM, BPS, PNP

Please join us for a workshop discussing databases available for quantitative research on environmental management, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and public and non profit management. With a surge of interest in firm environmental and social behavior, various governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, and private investment funds have started to collect and publish data related to environmental and social issues. Visibility, ease of access, and quality of available data however vary greatly, thereby inhibiting the use of certain datasets all together and causing high start-up costs for the use of others.

Participants in this PDW will discuss their experiences with a set of unique datasets so as to raise awareness and facilitate a broader use of available data. Discussed data includes national and international emission and compliance data on the firm and facility level, firm and state level data on conventional and alternative energy generation and associated emissions, and various rating databases that assess and order firms according to social and environmental performance measures.

This PDW is of immediate interest to scholars focused on environmental management, (alternative) energy generation, CSR, and public and non-profit management. It also is of interest to strategy scholars who wish to control for firm environmental and social performance when researching other firm performance outcomes as dependent variables.

    Participants in this panel are Aaron Chatterji (<st1:placename w:st="on">Duke</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype>), Nicole Darnall (George Mason U), Yan Gong (<st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">California</st1:placename>, <st1:city w:st="on">Irvine</st1:city>), Irene Henriques (<st1:placename w:st="on">York</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype>), Bryan W Husted (<st1:placename w:st="on">York</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype>), Dinah Koehler (US EPA/Conference Board Center for Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability), Ivan Montiel (<st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Texas Pan American</st1:placename>), Mike Russo (<st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Oregon</st1:placename>) and Ann Terlaak (<st1:placetype w:st="on">U.</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Wisconsin</st1:placename>, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Madison</st1:city></st1:place>)
