George Steiner was one of the founders of the SIM Division of the AOM in 1971. At the recent AOM meeting in San Antonio, the Fellows of the Academy honored George upon his 99th birthday with the following statement by Fellow and past AOM president, Art Bedeian of LSU. George was not present at the meeting, of course. Art gave me permission to circulate this among the SIM membership as a remembrance. I thought you might enjoy reading Art's comments and the Resolution passed by the AOM Fellows.

A Tribute to George Steiner
As Don has noted, this is, indeed, a special evening, in that, over the past year, no member of our distinguished company has been summonsed, to what former Fellows Dean John Mee always called, "An Endowed Celestial Chair in the Great University in the Sky." With this in mind, Don and I felt the evening would be all the more special if we took this occasion to briefly celebrate the long life of one of our own, and, in turn, to let him know that he is yet remembered with good cheer.
Born in 1912, former Fellows Dean George Steiner will be 100 on May 1, 2012 . George still lives at home in Van Nuys, where he spends his days keeping up with The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal. He enjoys reading, listening to classical music, exercising on a treadmill, and working at his computer. The thirteenth edition of George's business and society text, which he now co-authors with his son John, was published last month. George served as Academy of Management President in 1972, Dean of the Fellows Group from 1976 to 1979, and received the Academy's Distinguished Educator Award in 1990.
In honor of George's pending century celebration, Don and I wish to put forth the following resolution for your approval.
May I have a motion to accept and forward this resolution to George on behalf of the Fellowship?
Please stand and join me in raising your glasses to toast our esteemed colleague and friend George A. Steiner. Saluda!
