Announcement for a ONE Professional Development Workshop:
"Is Eating Well also Eating Good? Teaching Sustainability through
the Lens of Food." On Saturday, August 04, 2007, 4:00 PM - 6:00
PM, at the Loews Philadelphia in Commonwealth D.
This workshop will address food production and consumption, and the
notion of a sustainable "good life." This workshop will help inform
and inspire those attending to use the lens of food to teach
sustainability. We will focus on economic, ecological, and social
sustainability by examining issues related to food production and
consumption. Specifically, we will look at such issues as local vs.
distanced food production, organic vs. non-organic foods, small farms
vs. large corporate ownership, and fast food vs. slow food. These
issues allow us to consider impacts on environment, income
distribution, community organization, our human connection to nature
and to one another, and food safety and security. The presenters
include academics who have integrated food topics into teaching and
research, as well as practitioners from Whole Foods and the regional
food production community.
All are welcome, and preregistration is not necessary.
