Session #: 68 | Submission: 14787 | Sponsor(s): (SIM, BPS) Scheduled: Friday, Aug 9 2013 10:15AM - 12:15PM at WDW Coronado Springs Resort in Yucatan 2&3
Have you noticed the increasing number of ethics and CSR papers in the leading A journals?
How about the increasing number of contributions to business ethics journals from scholars who have made their careers as strategy or OB scholars?
The phenomenon of mainstreaming in business ethics is here, and this PDW is designed to help make sense of it all, ESPECIALLY for doctoral students and junior faculty. If you have ever wondered whether to describe yourself as a business ethics, sustainability or business & society scholar, or instead as a strategy, OB, entrepreneurship, HR or leadership scholar, this is the session for you.
This two-hour PDW will give you a chance to share in round table discussion with four members of our illustrious panel of ethics and management scholars.
The panel features senior faculty who as pioneers helped build a space for ethics and CSR scholarship in management:
- Andrew Crane, Professor of Business Ethics, York University, Schulich School of Business
- Tom Donaldson, Professor of Legal Studies & Business Ethics, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School
- Dirk Matten, Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility, York University, Schulich School of Business
- Gary Weaver, Professor of Management, University of Delaware, Lerner College of Business & Economics
- Patricia Werhane, Professor of Business Ethics, Professor of Business Ethics, DePaul University, Department of Philosophy
and more junior faculty who are shaping the field and their careers in the midst of the mainstreaming phenomenon:
- Jared Harris, Associate Professor of Business Ethics and Strategy, University of Virginia, Darden School
- Jessica Kennedy, Post-Doctoral Fellow in Business Ethics, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School
- Bidhan Parmar, Assistant Professor of Business Ethics and Organizational Behavior, University of Virginia, Darden School
- Curtis Wesley, Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship, Indiana University, Kelley School
- Michelle Westermann-Behaylo, Assistant Professor of Corporate Citizenship, American University, Kogod School
In the first hour, we will focus on the impact of mainstreaming on the development of scholarship and business ethics as a field, in journals and professional associations. In the second hour, we will make the issue more personal and explore how emerging scholars are to shape their identities and succeed in the evolving space for SIM.
While pre-registration is not required, you are strongly encouraged to reserve a spot at your table of choice (see below). To pre-register, please email gdlr@wharton.upenn.edu with your top two table requests. Confirmations with table assignment will be sent by August 1.
We look forward to seeing you!
