This PDW is seeking to uncover opportunities for strategy research at the crossroads of two emerging in importance phenomena: Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR), and Emerging Markets (EM). We hope to gather scholars with a strong interest in these phenomena from a variety of theoretical backgrounds and empirical methods of doing research. Panelists and participants will discuss work in progress as well as new avenues for future inquiry in this field. The aim of this proposed PDW is to build a community of scholars and a new stream of strategy research at the intersection of CSR and EM. The outcome of the PDW will be an outline of research questions, theory and methods applicable to examining these phenomena as well as potential collaborations to execute on identified research opportunities. Both senior and junior scholars will benefit from this workshop as it provides a forum for exchange of ideas and themes of great interest and importance to the strategy field, including strategic, social and environmental impact of CSR, international expansion to and from EM, institutional differences and similarities of EM and how they affect diffusion of global practices, comparative analysis of CSR within EM organizations and the mechanisms that drive potential heterogeneity. The PDW will consist of three parts: presentations by panelists, roundtable discussions guided by facilitators, and synthesis of research opportunities provided by the co-chairs. We expect scholars from multiple disciplines to participate in this PDW, including strategy, management, international business, social issues in management, entrepreneurship and organizational behavior.
