    Visiting Professor in Strategy

    Management

     

    The <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename> at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Bucknell</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place> seeks a full-time, visiting faculty member qualified to teach regularly scheduled upper-division undergraduate courses in strategy and in organizational studies/behavior/theory. This two-semester position will be for the entire 2010-2011 academic year and will comprise three courses per term.     The School encourages the teaching of management as a liberal art and strongly supports social, historical, alternative, and critical perspectives on management and organizations. Although visiting faculty are not required to engage in research, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Bucknell</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place> embraces the teacher-scholar ideal: we look with particular favor on those who are making creative intellectual contributions to both teaching and scholarship in their fields.  

    A record of excellence in undergraduate teaching is required. Qualified candidates will have completed or be near completion of the Ph.D. degree or equivalent. Persons with substantial professional experience and holding the master's degree will also be considered and are encouraged to apply. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

    MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS AT BUCKNELL

    A complex world characterized by globalization, rapid technological change, and increasing environmental, social, economic, political, and financial pressures requires a novel approach to management education.  Learning only traditional business skills parsed into standard functional silos is no longer enough for tomorrow's leaders. <st1:placename w:st="on">Bucknell</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype>'s <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename></st1:place> intends to cultivate in its graduates enhanced maturity, enlightened perspective, creativity, and judgment.  In this effort we have formulated a novel curriculum that builds on our decades long tradition of teaching management as a liberal art.  This new curriculum is projected to commence with the incoming class of fall 2011.  Taking advantage of Bucknell's comprehensive scope and intimate scale, the approximately 500 students in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename></st1:place> will have the opportunity to choose from among four highly interdisciplinary programs that are integrated with the University's premier offerings in the humanities, arts, sciences and engineering. Complete applicant files must include a letter of application, a current vita (including the names and contact information of three references), evidence of teaching effectiveness (Other Document 1), a description of your scholarly plan/research agenda, and a statement of teaching philosophy. When the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename></st1:place> determines a candidate should be considered for an on-campus visit, the search committee chair will contact that candidate to request samples of his/her scholarship and three letters of reference. Please do not submit scholarship samples and letters of reference unless and until asked to do so by the search committee chair.
