The Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario will convene the third PhD Sustainability Academy in London, Ontario on November 4-9, 2010. The PhD Sustainability Academy is an annual event of the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability (ARCS) and features:

Interactive paper development workshops with four guest faculty:

Jay Barney, Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University
Tom Lawrence, Simon Fraser University
Wes Sine, The Johnson School, Cornell University
Klaus Weber, Kellogg School of Business, Northwestern University

Fire-side chats hosted by ARCS faculty Tima Bansal and Andy King.

Seminars, panels, site visits, and open dialogue with leading practitioners to help increase the timeliness and relevance of participants' research agendas.

Oana Branzei is the Ivey faculty host.

The 2010 theme is Markets and Movements for Sustainability. We will explore the intersection of social movements and market creation for more socially and environmentally responsible products and services; governance and leadership topics that bridge the social and organizational domains; and capabilities for leveraging positive social change. We also welcome submissions on sustainability issues in strategy and policy, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics, environmental studies, and international business and international development. Different theoretical lenses, including economics, psychology, arts, philosophy, political studies, geography and sociology are encouraged, as are novel methodologies.

The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2010. Submission can take one of two formats – full manuscripts or extended abstracts. Full manuscripts should follow the AMJ style guide for empirical manuscripts or the AMR style guide for theoretical manuscripts. Extended abstracts should outline the intended research contribution, context, method and preliminary findings and include references and exhibits (theoretical model and/or preliminary findings). The extended abstract format is designed for doctoral students working on their proposals who have not yet completed the data collection. Please include a 150 word abstract, a 150 word bio, and a recent photo. Email your full submission to Oana Branzei, obranzei@ivey.uwo.ca, and Marlene J. Le Ber, mleber@ivey.uwo.ca.

The Network for Business Sustainability will sponsor a Best Paper Award and $500 cash prize.

Invitations will be sent out by September 15^th, 2009. Participants will be invited based on a double-blind selection process. Reviewers include ARCS members and PhD Sustainability Academy faculty and alumni.

IVEY will sponsor all the local expenses. Invited participants are responsible for their own travel.
