CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
1st European Conference on PEOPLE GOVERNANCE
Hosted by: EPEGON Foundation & HR Tribune
September 17-18, 2009 ? Brussels (Belgium)
The conference is set up as a business conference with an academic village.
Keynote addresses will be made by: Jan Muhlfeit (Microsoft), R. Edward
Freeman (University of Virginia), Dirk Matten (York University),
Jean-François Heris (Flat Glass Europe), Luc Lallemand (Infrabel), and
Serge Hubert (Epegon Foundation).
People governance regards the implementation of actions and guidelines
in order to integrate or take into account the human dimension in each
phase of the decision making process in an organization. The issue of
people governance in the corporate setting is a vast multi-faceted
subject which underlines the importance of meeting company
objectives, especially economic objectives, through a process carried
by the men and women participating in a dynamics that is shared and
sustainable, with rights and duties. In this perspective, men and
women are no longer seen as "capital" or "resources", but as active
and responsible members within a complex system whose purpose is
primarily economic. Hence, the concept doesn?t refer to "human
resources management", even though it is an aspect of the question.
Rather it provides insights on how corporate governance can be
enhanced through the influence of the innumerable components of human
nature. Reinforcing economic and human prospects, strengthening
social-professional cohesion, enabling the company to be more fully
aware of the realities and interactions of its people and mechanisms
all add up to better decision-making and better governance.
We wish to bring together people from both the corporate and the
academic world in order to discuss the different dimensions of People
Governance:
governance practices
strategic choices
institutional relations
managerial practices
economical choices
socio-cultural choices
CSR practices
technological choices
organizational choices
For the 2009 edition a special focus will be placed on the question of
how to integrate people governance in business education programmes
and, hence, to enable the future generation of corporate and
institutional leaders to deal with people governance issues in a
decisive and adequate way.
