    Dear Academy Members,

We invite you to attend the Professional Development Workshop (PDW) -- "The Last Taboo: Exposing Social Class in the Workplace." Sponsored by the Gender and Diversity in Organizations (GDO) and the Critical Management Studies (CMS) divisions, this PDW is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 11:10 AM-2:10 PM at the Sheraton Chicago, Missouri Room.

This PDW promises to be an illuminating and provocative discussion highlighting the necessity of integrating a social class perspective into organizational scholarship.  Dr. Evangelina Holvino, President of Chaos Management Ltd., and an Affiliate Faculty at the Center for Gender in Organizations, Simmons School of Management, will be a featured presenter.  Her presentation will raise several critical issues in considering the implications of social class for organizations, management practice, and organizational research.

Additionally, participants will also have the opportunity to engage in roundtable discussions with other leading scholars to explore the implications of social class for different areas of management research:

Diversity: Belle Rose Ragins, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

    Emotions: Larisa Tiedens, Stanford University

Identity: Glen Kreiner, Pennsylvania State University

Organizational Culture: Albert Mills, Saint Mary's University

(Or, come and propose a table topic of your own.)

Attendees will also be encouraged to reflect on their own social class identities and how that identity informs the work they do.   They will be challenged to help create an agenda for social class research and to devise ways that a social class perspective can be incorporated into their future scholarship.

Please join us for this important and engaging conversation on Saturday, August 8, 11:10 AM-2:10 PM at the Sheraton Chicago, Missouri Room.  Light refreshments will be provided.  We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
