An abstract of the event is provided below.
Business Strategies and Climate Change: An Intergenerational Perspective:
Strategic decision making by business organizations in an intergenerational context gets significantly confounded due to the confluence of a number of complex issues that involve psychology, socioecology, ethics and economics. The aim of this symposium is to understand the nature of this complexity as a first step towards developing a theory of strategic decision making in an intergenerational context using the background of anthropogenic climate change. After a brief introduction, the symposium will start by (1) revisiting the corporate objective by asking how businesses can be made aware of the strategic perspective of their intergenerational impact? Followed by (2) exploring the psychological foundation of intergenerational decision making and (3) seeking a socioecological perspective of intergenerational beneficence. Finally, (4) the symposium will address the key ethical dilemma of how, if at all, to discount the future generations in the context of business decision making. A moderated panel discussion will explore how these broad frameworks can inform a theory of strategic decision making in an intergenerational context. Subsequently, the floor will be opened for comments and questions from the audience. The symposium will close with final reflection from the panellists.
Please accept our sincere apologies for cross-posting.
Yours sincerely
