  • 1.  Sad news about Malcolm McIntosh

On behalf of Professor Sandra Waddock:

    Hi Everyone,

Below is a sad announcement from Cleo McIntosh (Malcolm McIntosh's daughter) about the passing of her father and my beloved friend and colleague Malcolm McIntosh, whom many of you know. Malcolm was a wonderful thinker, a polymath who followed his own path towards making the world a better place. He was a true intellectual shaman, and a serial social entrepreneur, who founded a number of centers. He was a pioneer in the conversation about corporate citizenship, worked throughout his career on issues around peace, and published many books. He had a wonderful sense of humor with that typically British acerbity and was always a delight to be around. He always 'thought forward' and had a keen sense of the need to bring about change in the world for the better. I will miss him.

As many of you may know, Malcolm struggled for the past six years or so with cancer, beating it multiple times to the amazement of his doctors (and everyone else). He bore his illness with the same wit and grace that he did everything else and continued working, finishing his last book only a month or two ago. I will miss him. Cleo's note is below my signature.

    Best,
    Sandra

    Dear Sandra,

We are so sorry to let you know that Malcolm died yesterday morning. He moved to the hospice on Tuesday as he had wanted to do. It has a beautiful garden and looks out across the countryside. It was a wet and windy day but he insisted that we went out and pushed him around the grounds together. Later in the evening we went out again and saw the sunset. As always he had plans for the next day or so, meeting friends and going for coffee.

On Wednesday morning he sat by the open doors of his room and felt the wind and sun on his face. He asked to be moved to the bed and he died shorty afterwards. We were all with him.

We have a lot of people to contact, apologies this news is reaching you in an e-mail. Please pass the news on to anyone who you feel would like to know and whom we may not have been able to reach. Malcolm asked us to ask you to let his US and global network know.

We will be in touch soon with the funeral arrangements, which will be held in Bath. Later this year we will also be having a memorial service. Malcolm knew so many people around the world!

Love from Lou, Sophie, and Cleo

Thanks for your note, Sandra. Be assured of my prayers and best wishes for the family. I am a great fan of Malcolm and, in fact, just wrote a blurb for his new book.

    All the best,

    Ollie Williams
