DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: OCTOBER 1, 2015

Conflict and collaboration over sustainability efforts and environmental integrity are increasingly central concerns within and between local, national, and international communities. In a world of rapid population growth, urbanization, and climate change, conflicts over fundamental issues of equity, economic well-being, and environmental integrity occur in a context where the efficacy of alternative strategies remain uncertain over a long time. Consequently, these conflicts challenge governance at all levels of society and across the public, private and nonprofit sectors. To address these challenges, we need to improve our understanding of the dynamics of these conflicts and of approaches to their management.

In this special issue, we invite submissions that examine the contextual, discourse, and process dynamics associated with efforts to promote sustainability and environmental integrity. We encourage submissions that examine the role of conflict and cooperation in the development and implementation of sustainability and environmental efforts, the roles of civic engagement and public discourse in governance around these issues, and the design and efficacy of processes to promote public dialogue, deliberative democracy, or effective conflict resolution around these issues. We also welcome submissions shedding light on specific aspects of the environmental conflict management behaviors, which could enhance our ability to design effective decision making processes.

We welcome quantitative and qualitative investigations into these dynamics, across organizational, jurisdictional governance, or international levels. We also welcome theoretical reviews and commentaries provided that they make an original contribution to the literature.
