Can the World Be Wrong? Where Global Public Opinion Says We're Headed by Doug Miller
When the global economy and world order become uncertain, where do we look for a sense of where things are heading?
The latest release from Greenleaf Publishing, the book uses never-before-seen global public opinion polls to understand what ordinary people across the world think about our joint future. Covering issues from globalization and terrorism to ethical consumption and a war on poverty, insightful findings from this brand-new data are drawn out, with some refreshingly positive conclusions.
Author Doug Miller is Chairman of GlobeScan Incorporated, the global public opinion and stakeholder research consultancy that has conducted annual polls for the BBC World Service for the last ten years.
Some of the most significant findings include:
*On average, 48% of people across 15 countries viewed EU influence in the world as "positive"
*In all but one country polled, the majority of citizens supported direct representation at the world level through electing representatives to the UN General Assembly
*Majorities of 57% across 16 countries say the economic system is unfair
*One in two people do not believe that wealth is associated with hard work or cleverness
*High support for trade barriers (average of 72% across 16 countries) to protect country's interests
*In the US, 53% of people identified "Social responsibilities (labor practices /business ethics /environmental impacts)" as the factor most influential in forming their impression of a company
