This special issue is open to submissions from different academic disciplines that are conceptual or empirical in nature and present new insights and innovative ideas that shed light on the role of SMEs in emerging/developing world supply chains. Also modelling approaches are welcome if based on empirical data. We particularly welcome contributions that explore the requirements, contingencies and conflicts of supply chains spanning to and operating in developing/emerging countries. Such a critical analysis may include, for example, innovative theoretical perspectives and business models for sustainability as well as empowerment of emerging/developing world actors for creating radical transformative change for SMEs, "micro-entrepreneurs" and society, going boldly beyond the current "collaborative" approach in supply/value chain literature and practice (despite its unquestioned merits).
