Announcing Issue 4 of Business, Peace and Sustainable Development (BPSD) from Greenleaf Publishing

What responsibility does business have towards peace? What is the role of business in society? If there is anything we can learn from the business scandals and financial crises of the last two decades, it is that we cannot continue with "business as usual", and that corporate philanthropy does not constitute corporate responsibility.

This issue of Business, Peace and Sustainable Development (BPSD) demonstrates how corporate social responsibility (CSR) ideas and concepts can be applied to the areas of peace. It examines the challenges that armed non-state actors (ANSAs) pose to companies in meeting key global standards of corporate social responsibility, discusses the role of business as peace builder, looks at CSR and peace in the mining sector, and discusses the role of the United Nations peacebuilding system in promoting corporate responsibility.

Additionally, Professor Robert McNulty outlines the urgent importance of finding alternatives to violence, outlining the concept of 'business for peace', which promises huge benefits for humanity.

Professor Timothy Fort, a world expert on peace through commerce, contributes a thought-provoking essay on gentle commerce, business and peace. The idea of gentle commerce, similarly to the concept of conscious capitalism, strives to go beyond CSR to fundamentally challenge capitalism and the role of business in society.

Business, Peace and Sustainable Development Issue 4 is available in the Sustainable Organization Library 2015. Visit www.greenleaf-publishing.com/bpsd for more details, including calls for contributions.
