Social Issues in Management Research Incubator

Do you have a great research idea but want feedback on how best to refine it into an impactful project? Are you at the project design stage and looking for advice on how to build in a clear theoretical contribution? Are you looking for a reality check on your planned methodology? Do you want to meet other scholars in your field of research and exchange ideas about hot new research projects? The SIM Research Incubator provides an opportunity to meet, discuss and get expert feedback on early ideas for research projects in the social issues in management field.

We have identified 10 highly active, hot, or high potential research topic areas in the SIM domain and selected one established scholar to lead each of the areas. We want you to submit your research ideas (1-2 pages maximum) for new research projects or papers in that area. We will then select the best ideas to participate in the workshop and to share with the other selected participants. The idea is to exchange ideas, get feedback, and identify possible collaborations with others.

The ten research topics and topic leaders are:

    1. Business and poverty alleviation: Ana-Maria Peredo, University of Victoria
      2. Communication and CSR: Mette Morsing, Copenhagen Business School

      3. Contingency approaches to the business case for CSR: Mike Barnett, Rutgers University

      4. Developing stakeholder theory: Robert Phillips, University of Richmond

      5. Ethical leadership: Linda Trevino, Pennsylvania State University

      6. Institutional theory and social change: Charlene Zietsma, York University

      7. Moral intuition and ethical behavior in organizations: Gary Weaver, University of Delaware

      8. New sociological perspectives for CSR research: Jean-Pascal Gond, City University, London

      9. Quantitative analysis of social issues in management: Irene Henriques, York University

      10. Researching ethical work climates: Anke Arnaud, Embry Riddle Aeronautical U.

During the session, the topic leader will present some ideas of what they think the exciting new research topics are in the specified area. Then the topic leader and the other participants will provide feedback on each of the ideas submitted beforehand. The incubator will conclude with a brief plenary summarizing the best new ideas or exciting opportunities for new research from each topic area.
To maximize the quality of the sessions, we will only accept a maximum of 5 participants for each topic, so be sure to send us your best new ideas. Your proposal should be 1-2 pages in length and should specifying your preferred topic area. Multiple submissions are encouraged but only one proposal per participant will be accepted in the workshop. We will send acceptances by July 9, 2014.

Please send your proposals by June 9, 2014 to CSR@schulich.yorku.ca

The workshop is provisionally scheduled for Saturday, August 2, 2014, from 2:15pm to 4.15pm in the Loews Philadelphia Hotel.
