    Hello,
I wonder if someone is familiar with the historical development of CSR (corporate social responsibility): on what kind of social context it was first  raised, and then what social developments brought the topic to the center of attention, and off the center? I hope to know  what makes the CSR the hot / cold topic in the history of CSR reserach.
Any explanations and references will be appreciated greatly.
    Thanks,

    Sheng

Dear Sheng – I recommend "Corporation, Be Good! The Story of Corporate Social Responsibility" by William C. Frederick (Dog Ear Publishing: Indianapolis, IN, 2006).  Dr. Frederick, my mentor, is a leader in the field, a terrific writer, and has captured many of the issues you seek.

    Hello, Sheng,

I suggest two books on the history and concepts of CSR.

Wayne Visser. 2011. "The Age of Responsibility: CSR 2.0 and the New DNA of Business." Chichester, UK: John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Wayne Visser, Dirk Matten, Manfred Pohl, & Nick Tolhurst. 2007. "The A to Z of Corporate Social Responsibiliity." Chichester, UK: John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. There is a review of this book on my website www.williamcfrederick.com Check on New Book Reviews and look for "David and Goliath Meet in the CSR Superbowl."

    Best wishes,

    Bill
