  • 1.  SIMian Tracks: 2012 AoM Program -- SIM Division

    Hello all;
     
    Sure hope you are looking forward to the upcoming Academy of
    Management conference in Boston.  We've a great program this year! Many many thanks to all of you that worked so hard as authors of the nearly 400 submissions and the 450+ reviewers.
     
    As you likely know already, the main hotel for SIM activities will be
    the MarriottCopley Place (MCP).  We have created an exciting program with lots of variety and venues.  Be sure to check out the  SIMian tracks which provides an overview of the PDW and scholarly activities sponsored or co-sponsored by the SIM Division. 
     
    (note:  The SIMlistserv continues to reject the SIMian tracks file as too large, so 'SIMian Tracks' is being posted to the SIM website and we'll get a link sent to you as soon as it is available. Thanks Aimee!)
     
    Here's a few of the highlights.
    Highlights.  Sunday lateafternoon, in the Marriott Copley Place Hotel, is a time for a very few, veryspecial SIM sessions!  We start by recognizing our emergent scholars as Finalists in the SIM Best
    Dissertation(5-6pm, Salon K).  We then honorProfessor Thomas Jones' significant impacts across three decades of thought leadership via numerous AMR and AMJ publications as well as being the first editor of Business & Society, and chair of numerous doctoral dissertations at the University of Washington.  Pleasejoin Ed Freeman, Paul Godfrey, Lori Verstegan Ryan, Andy Wicks, and ShawnBerman as they roast and toast Tom (6-7.30pm, Salon E).   A reception for new and old members alike will follow so we can continue the good conversations (7.30-8.30pm, Salon E).
     
    Friday-Saturday PDW Program. Thanks to a great professional
    development workshop (PDW) programspearheaded by Mike Barnett, our options range from online teaching to creatingwork/life balance to theororizing about crises and CSR or understanding OccupyAoM.  We also  have the longstanding SIM division PDW sessions:  the SIM doctoral consortium (led by Jill Brown and Andy Wicks); the junior faculty consortium(led by Mark Sharfman and Stephanie Bertels); the SIMian trifecta:  Manuscript Development Workshop; Simian SpeedDating and Taking Stock in SIM (led by Charlene Zietsma and Helen Haugh with Kathleen Rehbein and Mike Valente).  TheSIM/SBE joint speaker is offsite Saturday evening at the Fairmont Copley PlazaHotel-just a
    short 10 minute walk away from the Marriott Copley Place Hotel.
     
    Sunday.  Be sure to check outthe All-Academy Discussion Roundtable Paper Sessions on Sunday in addition tothe featured sessions highlighted above:  emergent scholar who are the finalists for Best Dissertation, followed by a session honoring Tom Jones and finally a reception for new and old members to kick off the scholarly portion of the Academy meetings.
     
    Monday and Tuesday Scholarly Program.  During the regular scholarly portion of theconference (Monday and Tuesday) we have: All-Academy Showcase Symposium; the joint-sponsored division symposium;the Division Roundtable Papers; Cross-Divisional Papers and of course, thetraditional division paper sessions. Lots of topics to choose from covering the range of SIM topics:  ethics including behavioral ethics; corporate governance and shareholder activism; corporate responsibility across cultures,regions and nation-states; social change including systems change and socialentrepreneurship, business-government relations; stakeholder management and stakeholder theory and many additional excellent conversations to be engaged with!
     
    Of course, the program couldn't be accomplished without the help of
