Trans-Disciplinary Research in Corporate Governance: Identifying New Research Issues and Ideas

    Sponsors: SIM, BPS, IM
    Saturday, August 4, from 10:15am-12:45pm
Marriott Boston Copley Place Salon H

    Participants:
    John Boatright (Loyola U)
    Pamela Brandes (Syracuse U)
    Ann Buchholtz (Rutgers U)
    Martin Conyon (Wharton School)
    Parthiban David (American U)
    Richard Priem (Texas Christian U)

Organizers: Marguerite Schneider (NJIT) and Jill Brown (Lehigh U)

Multiple theoretical bases, including agency, institutional, and stakeholder theories, have contributed to identifying and analyzing a range of corporate governance issues and have offered tentative solutions to the issue of corporate control. Yet, new situations and challenges to corporate governance continue to emerge, and recent events suggest that corporate governance and its mechanisms are often not exercising sufficient control over the corporation. The proposed PDW intends to inform and inspire attendees toward conducting trans-disciplinary or trans- divisional corporate governance research in an effort to conceptualize the rights, responsibilities and relationships of the firm and its constituents. This session will be highly interactive. Participants will briefly discuss their own research in ethics, CSR, HR, finance, accounting, strategy and international strategy to illustrate how trans-disciplinary research in corporate governance can be conducted, and together with the attendees, they will identify new ideas and issues for research. The PDW will then turn into a breakout session, in which speakers and attendees will self-organize and interact based on their research interests.
    All are welcome!
