    Ethics and Compliance:

New Developments in Practice and Teaching

PDW Session, Saturday, August 13, 10:15 am – 12:15 pm

    Marriott Rivercenter, Salon D

"Ethics and Compliance" (E&C) has evolved into an essential feature of organizational culture and structure. Virtually all large U.S. firms today have an active E&C staff and extensive training and reporting programs. But despite its growth in importance within organizations, only cursory attention is given to E&C in business school courses, if at all. E&C is inherently cross-disciplinary. Faculty across the management spectrum (e.g., SIM, OB, HRM, IM, BPS, ethics, law, operations, etc.) need to know more and teach in more depth about how E&C fits into their areas of study and courses.

This PDW has two goals: (1) to invite Academy members to learn more from E&C professionals, who will describe their experiences in building the E&C function, and (2) to provide guidance and resources about how to organize teaching modules and stand-alone electives on E&C through presentations by faculty who are pioneers in this area.

Presentations on E&C practice will be made by:

    ·         Tim Mazur, chief operating officer of the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association

    ·         Earnie Broughton, ethics director for USAA

Presentations on teaching E&C in-depth will be made by:

    ·         Linda Trevino, Penn State University

    ·         Virginia Gerde, Duquesne University

    ·         Jeanne Logsdon, University of New Mexico

Resources will be available for Academy members attending this session.
