Edgerley Family Dean of Business Administration, Kansas State University
Kansas State University invites applications and nominations for the
Edgerley Family Dean of Business Administration in the College of Business
Administration.
The University: Kansas State University is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-
Extensive institution with an enrollment of 23,600 students, including
4,000 graduate students. The University is recognized for the quality of
its academic programs and for consistently producing recipients of top
national academic scholarships. The College of Business Administration is
a major component of this student-centered research university. The Dean
of the College of Business Administration reports directly to the Provost
and Senior Vice President.
The College of Business Administration: The College of Business
Administration is comprised of 2,380 undergraduate students in the
Departments of Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing, and 140
students enrolled in the Masters of Accountancy and Masters of Business
Administration programs. Both undergraduate and graduate programs have
experienced and anticipate steady growth, resulting in the creation of 12
new endowed chair positions over the last 10 years, with a focus on
developing programs in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership, ethics,
investment management, and relationship selling. All programs are
accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
(AACSB). The Accounting program is one of the few in the nation to have
achieved separate accreditation. There are 59 full-time faculty positions
in the College.
Responsibilities: The Dean of the College of Business Administration is
the chief academic and administrative officer of the College. The Dean has
responsibility for providing leadership and support for:
• all academic programs in the College;
• high-quality undergraduate and graduate experiences;
• continued excellence and growth in research programs;
• effective academic advising;
• recruitment and retention of high caliber, diverse students to the
college;
• working productively with faculty, department heads, deans, students,
University administrators and the broader community on interdisciplinary
and collaborative projects;
• effective fiscal stewardship and fundraising efforts on behalf of the
College; and
• maintaining close ties with alumni, benefactors and other constituents
on issues related to the enhancement of the College and the University.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. or other terminal
degree in a business discipline; a proven record of excellence in research
that merits appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure in an
academic unit of the College; and a proven record of success in an
administrative position with responsibility for guiding strategy, managing
finances, motivating faculty and engaging external constituencies
(especially alumni and the business community) comparable to an academic
department head or higher.
Successful candidates should possess as many of these preferred
characteristics as possible:
• demonstrated vision and leadership in developing and implementing
successful interdisciplinary programs that enhance the standing of the
institution,
• ability to conduct external fundraising,
• ability to manage international programs, including curriculum, study
abroad and exchange programs,
• demonstrated expertise in promoting diversity and inclusion among
students, faculty, staff, and in the curriculum.
The Dean should also share the values and culture of the university, which
includes a true concern for a diverse student population, a love of
teaching and a strong commitment to research. The individual must be a
person with a excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a
reputation for open and honest communication and a high level of personal
integrity.
Manhattan, Kansas: Kansas State University is located in Manhattan, KS in
the rolling Flint Hills approximately 100 miles west of Kansas City.
Manhattan has a population of 52,000 residents. The surrounding area
offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as camping,
boating, hunting, fishing, hiking and biking. Mostly as a result of the
university’s influence, cultural and sporting events are at a level of
frequency and quality rare in cities of this size. Further, Manhattan
offers affordable housing, extremely strong elementary, middle, and high
school programs, and a crime rate one-half the national average. Finally,
commercial jet service to both Dallas and Chicago increases accessibility.
In short, Manhattan offers a variety of urban amenities yet retains the
best qualities of a small university town.
