Just one week from now, many of you will be in Vancouver for the 2015 Academy Meetings. Sunday is the day when we transition from the PDW sessions held Friday and Saturday to the more traditional program (traditional papers and symposia) held Monday and Tuesday. You can find each of the sessions listed in your online Program: Just go to the following URL:

Click on the BROWSE Sessions tab, and FILTER on SIM as the sponsor. Just to provide an overview, here's a look ahead at what's going on Sunday, August 9.

    SUNDAY:

    SCENE TRANSITIONS

We are delighted to present two All-Academy Themed (AAT) Symposia in the Vancouver Convention Center, Room 110.

    • First, at 9:30-11:00 AM, we'll have a set of papers in a session entitled "Rethinking Governance in Organizations: A New Look at Responsibility and Accountability."
    • Then 1:00-2:30 PM, attend a panel discussion "Making a Difference with Global Leadership: What Can Firms, People and Business Schools Do?"

We also have five discussion paper sessions on this day, back-to-back from 11:15 AM until 6:00 PM at the Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel (the primary SIM Hotel).

    • Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation
    • CEOs and Responsible Leaders
    • CSR, Governance, and Corporate Political Activity
    • Stakeholder Perspectives
    • An Eclectic Blend of Ideas

Each of these sessions comprises four papers that were deemed by reviewers and associate editors to be not only relevant to our field but also likely to develop into interesting and publishable papers. We set them aside for a discussion session instead of putting them in a traditional paper session because we felt they would generate and benefit from in-depth conversations among experts in the field. Come hear what these scholar authors have to say, and contribute to their further thinking by adding your own questions, assessments, and suggestions to the conversation.

Our Best Dissertation Award Committee selected three 2015 SIM Best Dissertation Finalists for the Award, and those budding scholars will be presenting overviews of their work 4:00-5:00 PM in Salon F at at the Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel (the primary SIM Hotel).

    • Rashedur Chowdhury: "Reconceptualizing the Dynamics of the Relationship Between Marginalized Stakeholders and Multinational Firms" (University of Cambridge, UK)
    • Erica L. Steckler: "The Social Construction of Organizational Authenticisy by Stakeholders" (Carroll School of Management, Boston College, USA)
    • Koen van Bommel: "Sustainability Reporting in the Netherlands: A Case of Institutionalisation, Commensuration and Justification" (Warwick Business School, UK)

Come and hear about this cutting-edge scholarship and meet these inspiring new SIM scholars.

Finally, join us for the SIM Salon at 6:30 PM in Ballroom III at the Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel (the primary SIM Hotel) with your host SIM Division Chair-Elect Harry Van Buren. Seven eminent scholars will each talk about one word related to what the theme of the conference, "opening governance," means for SIM research.

    • Ann K. Buchholtz, Rutgers U.
    • Jeremy Moon, Copenhagen Business School
    • Michael Andreas Pirson, Fordham U.
    • Kathleen Rehbein, Marquette U.
    • Laura J. Spence, Royal Holloway/U. of London
    • Donna J. Wood, U. of Northern Iowa
    • Lori Verstegen Ryan, San Diego State U.

Come for an hour to hear interesting and provocative ideas, and to add your own thoughts and questions!

That sums it up for next Sunday's program! I'll email tomorrow with a look at what's happening on Monday in the SIM Division at the Academy Meetings.

    Happy trails,

    Jamie
