    Dear SIM Division Listserv members,

I wanted to make you aware of something special the GDO Division is doing in response to the Charleston, SC killings and the many other acts of racist violence in recent times. I hope that some of you will be able to make time in your busy Academy Meetings schedules to attend this event.

In response to painfully persistent patterns of racist violence, manifested so grievously in the recent killings in Charleston, SC, several members of the Gender and Diversity in Organization Division asked for some time in the program to acknowledge the grief and to address the question of how we can address racism better together through GDO. Consequently, plans for the GDO plenary have shifted at the 11th hour; our goal is that this session will serve as a springboard for more robust racial justice work on the part of GDO. We see this work as critical-to the Academy, to business schools globally, to corporations and to society as a whole.

To that end, the plenary gathering will be divided into circles of 6-8 participants, including a volunteer facilitator. Some of the circles will be arranged around particular topics, e.g., anti-racism work in different areas of the globe, racism and campus sexual assault, whiteness and racism.  Other circles will determine their own focal topics in real time.  Our hoped for outcomes from each circle will be either a concrete objective, action step, or idea for an initiate, along with asking participants to give voice to what they can and will do.

The GDO Plenary will take place Monday, August 10 2015 3:00PM - 4:30PM at Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel in Cordova Ballroom.  Please plan to join us and bring a friend.

If you have questions about this event, please contact Doug Creed, GDO Program Chair, creedatgdo@gmail.com.

    Best regards,
    Jamie
(your 2015 SIM Division Program Chair)
