Vacant position: Editor-in-Chief Journal of Business Ethics
Springer is seeking a replacement for the current Editor in Chief and founder of the Journal of Business Ethics, Professor Alex Michalos, who retires end of December 2015. The Journal of Business Ethics publishes articles from a wide variety of methodological and disciplinary perspectives on ethical issues related to business that bring something new or unique to the discourse in their field. Professor Michalos founded the journal in 1980 and has edited it for 35 years. Since 1980, the journal has grown into one of the major journals in the field. Since its initiation the journal has published articles in the broadest possible scope and the journal is one of the very few truly international journals in the field, publishing contributions from all over the world. It is published in 7 volumes / 28 issues per year and currently has an annual page budget of 4900. About 10 year ago a group of section editors was appointed to support the Editor-in-Chief. It is expected that the appointed person will already hold a senior position in academia or other research establishment and will have a track record of publishing in business ethics related areas. The appointment will be for initial seven to ten year term. The Editor-in-Chief will receive an annual stipend. A suitable candidate for the position should:
- Publish regularly in main Business Ethics publications – Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics Quarterly, Business Ethics: A European Review; Business in Society or the Academy of Management publications: Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Perspectives and Academy of Management Review.
- Be a highly cited author of papers published in the aforementioned publications.
- Be well connected in the Business Ethics community by way of:
· regular attendance at main conferences, SBE, AOM, EBEN, ISBEE, IABS and WBEF
· regularly presenting papers at one or more of these meetings
· involvement in one or more of these societies
- Hold a Section Editors meeting every 18 to 24 months during one of the main meetings – probably SBE/AOM.
- Maintain the journal's current annual output, while working toward ensuring overall quality
- Work toward increasing citations and improving the impact factor.
- Regularly monitor impact factors, rejection rates, downloads and other indicators to keep track of and improve the overall quality.
- Work within the journal's section editor structure, while using his/her network to appoint/replace section editors where necessary with enthusiastic candidates who are willing to proactively grow their sections.
- Be prepared to commit to an initial term of 7 to 10 years.
