    Organization & Environment is recognized as a leading international journal unique in its emphasis on the connection between management of organizations and environment. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research that sets internationally excellent standards for rigorous thinking about the complex balance between and among social, natural, and economic challenges. The journal is indexed in multiple relevant databases and it is now included in both the "environmental studies" and "management" categories of the Thompson-JCR Social Sciences Citation Index.

    We now have over 20 years of research on the complex relationships between organisations and their natural and social environments. In this first annual review issue of Organization & Environment (O&E) we hope to draw insight and inspiration from in-depth reviews of specific topics in this research domain. We invite authors to reflect on the state of theory, empirical research and practice in relation to key questions at the interface of management of organizations and the natural environment. The editorial team of O&E anticipate making "Review Issues" a regular feature of O&E, and the frequency will be based on our experience with this special issue.

    For this review issue, we seek comprehensive and analytical reviews of recent and relevant research that synthesize, integrate and extend thinking in the connection between management of organizations and the general environment using sustainability lenses.  We encourage authors to anchor their thoughts in detailed retrospection on past and current research, and to identify theoretical, empirical, methodological or practical challenges for future research. Reviews need to have clear implications for both future scholarship and practice. We are open to reviews based within any relevant discipline or topic area, as long as they contain a thorough analytical review of a significant and important research topic within the O&E editorial domain.

    Outline Proposals due Feb 15th 2014

    We will have a two-stage process for this new O&E Review Issue format. Initially, authors are invited to submit a proposal of 3-5 pages single-spaced (excluding references, tables and appendices). The guest editors will review all the received proposals and invite authors to develop a full paper for publication consideration in this special issue of O&E. Proposals should outline the following:

    1) the body of literature and practice that you intend to review;

    2) why we need a review of this research area;

    3) your overall approach and the materials you intend to review; and

    4) the implications for theory, future research and practice.

    Please submit your proposals to this special issue through O&E's site at Manuscript Central (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/oe) between January 1, 2014 and February 15, 2014. It is important that you indicate that your submission is for this special "Review Issue" during the online submission process. Please prepare manuscripts according to the guidelines shown at the journal website (http://oae.sagepub.com).

    Papers and Review Process

    All the proposals will be subject to editorial review. We will evaluate proposals based on the extent to which they promise a high impact, thorough, inspiring and viable review within the timeline available. The decisions on proposals and the initial feedback will be shared with authors by March 1st, 2014. Full papers will be due by June 30th, 2014. These full reviews will be subject to double-blind peer review with the support of the guest editors. Editors reserve the right to desk reject complete papers if they are deemed too underdeveloped for this issue. Our target is to provide reviews and feedback on full papers by September 15th, 2014 so that any revisions can be completed by December 15th, 2014. The Review Issue is scheduled for publication in March 2015.

    We look forward to working with you, our research community, to develop sound, thoughtful and enlightening reviews of scholarship in this area. If you have any questions about this new O&E initiative, please contact either of the guest editors.
