    The Medici Summer School in Management Studies, Bologna, June 11-June 15, 2018
    We are pleased to announce the organization of the 10th edition of the Medici Summer School in Management Studies for doctoral students and young researchers which will be held in Bologna, June 11 - June 15, 2018. The school is organized and sponsored by Bologna Business School (University of Bologna), HEC Paris (Society and Organizations Research Center and the HEC Foundation), and MIT Sloan School

    The Summer School is designed to promote doctoral education and research organization theory and related fields (economic sociology, management studies, strategy) and contribute to the development of enlightened practice in the management of business organizations. The Summer School is a unique educational program for qualified doctoral students interacting with thought leaders in the management field who will share their knowledge and wisdom on frontier research topics.

    The title of the 2018 edition is:

    Organizations as Vehicles and Settings for Social Change

    The Summer School combines lectures and research seminars by international scholars with an active engagement of participant students. Confirmed faculty members:

    -                    Gino Cattani (NYU)

    -                    Harry Collins (Cardiff University)

    -                    Rodolphe Durand (HEC Paris)

    -                    Simone Ferriani (University of Bologna)

    -                    Jennifer Howard-Grenville (University of Cambridge)

    -                    Brayden King (Kellogg School of Management)

    -                    Gianni Lorenzoni (University of Bologna)

    -                    Johanna Mair (Hertie School of Governance & Stanford University)

    -                    Brian Rubineau (McGill University)

    -                    Ezra Zuckerman (MIT)

    The 2018 Summer School will begin on Sunday, June 10 with a welcome dinner. Closing session will be on Friday, 15 June. The venue for the Summer School will be the beautiful Villa Guastavillani, which is home to the Bologna Business School. Villa Guastavillani is a wonderful XVI century villa located on the Bologna hillside.

    Application procedure            
    Applications are welcome from current Ph.D. students in Management, Strategy, Organization Theory, Economic Sociology, and related disciplines from universities worldwide. Students for the Summer School will be selected in accordance with the quality of their doctoral curricula, research interests, and application materials.  Applications from students who have completed at least two years of doctoral training will be considered, with preference given to those who have satisfied their course requirements and exams but have not yet embarked on their dissertation research.  Applications from post-docs will also be considered.

     

     

    There is no application or participation fee. Student participants will be responsible for their own long distance travel expenses to and from Bologna, but the Summer School will cover all accommodation and board expenses during the week of sessions provided that students attend the entire week. 

    The deadline for applications is April 10th, 2018. Admitted candidates will be notified by April 25. A waiting list of other candidates will be established.

    Now...you both know that I get (too?) excited about opportunities and that I count on you to guide me. Below is another opportunity that seems exciting (particularly given the likes of Johanna Mair, Rodolphe Durand, Brayden King, Jennifer Howard-Grenville, and Ezra Zuckerman). I am happy to pay for this out of my PDA and out of my own pocket if you think it would be worth me going, especially given that I will be on the job market.

    If you don't think it's worth it, I trust your opinions.
