We have some good entries to the first annual Microfinance Business Idea Competition (www.mfbic.org), but not nearly as many as I would have hoped. Thus I am extending the deadline another couple of days in the hopes that you or other smart/nice people you know could submit an idea asap. The best ideas submitted to the Victoria, BC track will be communicated to a local organization that is working hard to crack the code to North American domestic microfinance. The best ideas submitted to the Tanzania track will be a) vetted in Tanzania in late March (for local suitablity), b) evolved into full business plans over summer 2010, c) be funded with $5k each and run by a graduating undergrad for six months (October 2010-April 2011), and eventually d) given over to Tanzanian ownership. Make a difference while potentially winning up to $10k in prize money. (Your odds are really good at this point)
