Social Issues in Management Division's
2018 Doctoral Student Consortium!
The Social Issues in Management (SIM) Division welcomes applications for its 2018 Doctoral Student Consortium to be held at the Academy of Management annual meeting in Chicago, IL. The Consortium will bring together doctoral students and experienced SIM faculty to discuss opportunities and challenges in the field. Attending doctoral students will receive detailed and constructive feedback on their questions from accomplished SIM scholars.
The Consortium will begin at 5pm on Thursday, August 9th, with a fireside chat with Professor Thomas Donaldson of the Wharton School of Business (Penn) who will discuss his research and career in academia in an interview with Professor Michael Johnson-Cramer (Bucknell). A social dinner will follow. On Friday the 10th, the Consortium will begin at 8:00am and finish at 4:30pm. The tentative program will include panels and discussions on:
(a) SIM teaching practicum: How to be successful in the classroom
(b) The publishing process – Engaging with editors and reviewers, becoming a good reviewer, publishing "strategies"
(c) Ask the experts lunch with SIM scholars
(d) Managing relationships – work-life, international, career choice issues
(e) Surviving a doctoral program- dissertating and job market
Faculty panelists span a range of career stages and research issues, including Brad Agle (BYU), Michael Barnett (Rutgers), Bruce Barry (Vanderbilt), Denis Collins (Edgewood), Nikki den Nieuwenboer (Kansas), Tom Donaldson (Penn), Ed Freeman (Virginia), Virginia Gerde (Furman), Jamie Hendry (Bucknell), Irene Henriques (York), Michael Johnson-Cramer (Bucknell), Colin Higgins (Deakin), Emilio Marti (Zurich), Barry Mitnick (Pittsburgh), Katherina Pattit (St. Thomas), Rob Phillips (Richmond), Thomas Roulet (King's College London), Erica Steckler (U Mass Lowell), Harry Van Buren (New Mexico), James Weber (Duquesne), and Sandra Waddock (Boston College).
Doctoral students in SIM area are eligible to apply for the consortium. The application deadline is May 31st, 2018; however we will be using rolling admissions. Apply early!
