    Call for Papers

The Susilo Institute for Ethics in the Global Economy

    3rd Annual Symposium:

Sustainability under Change -- Challenges and Opportunities for Practitioners and Academics

    June 8-10, 2018

    Beijing, China

Submission Deadline: Midnight January 5, 2018, Beijing Time

(Noon January 5, 2018, U.S. Eastern Standard Time)

The Susilo Institute for Ethics in the Global Economy 3rd Annual Symposium will take place in Beijing, China, hosted by School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University from June 8-10, 2018. We invite both academics and practitioners from throughout China and the world who seek to explore and exchange ideas surrounding the role of ethics in a changing global economy. It will continue the tradition begun at the inaugural symposium in May 2016 in Surabaya, Indonesia, which featured foremost business, academic, and political leaders reflecting on "Global Business Ethics – East Meets West."

The theme of the 3rd Tsinghua-based Symposium is "Sustainability under Change -- Challenges and Opportunities for Practitioners and Academics". Over the past decades, China has made remarkable achievements in both economic and social developments and delivered successfully on her commitments to the UN Millennium Development Goals. At present, China has set forth her vision for international and regional cooperation, shared benefits, and sustainable development through initiating the Belt and Road Initiative (B&R), signing the UN SDGs and Paris Agreement, upgrading its industrial and educational landscapes, encouraging mass entrepreneurship and innovation, etc. Looking into the future, China is becoming an inspiration to other countries as an indispensable participant and a leading example.

We enthusiastically invite you to submit an abstract (in Chinese or English) of your original and unpublished research paper to echo with the symposium theme. In particular, we welcome submissions focusing on the following areas:

                          ·           What are the challenges and opportunities for sustainability in the changing global economy, e.g., new developments in business models, technologies, (artificial intelligence, internet of things, bigdata, etc.)?

                          ·           New practices in the field on managing sustainability (e.g., organization level, country level, etc.)

                          ·           How do organizations align different stakeholders' interests with their business philosophy to achieve sustainability?

                          ·           What's new in China and what can China offer in the field of sustainability?

Studies on sustainability, global ethics, and corporate responsibilities in general are also welcome.

    Papers and Reviewers

Because of the diverse nature of the audience we strive to serve, papers are welcome both from a traditional, scholarly orientation and from a more practical, applied perspective. We accept studies using various research methodologies including survey research, archival data analysis, experimental studies, case studies, qualitative methods, and other creative methods. Style guidelines therefore will be slightly flexible (though academic references are expected in all cases).

Two best paper awards will be honored during the formal conference luncheon:

    ·         Best Paper: Scholarly Analysis of Ethics in the Global Economy

    ·         Best Paper: Applied Analysis of Ethics in the Global Economy

To submit your proposal, please see the timeline and submission instructions below.

    Submission Timeline and Style Guidelines

    ·         January 5, 2018: Deadline for submission of paper proposals.  Proposals shall include a title and up to 500 words (reference excluded). In your proposal please explain the aim, methodology, possible findings, and provide relevant references to support your arguments.

    ·         February 15, 2018: Authors are informed whether their paper has been accepted for presentation at the Symposium.

    ·         May 10, 2018: Deadline for authors to provide complete papers (maximum 7000 words, all inclusive) and abstracts (maximum 500 words).  Each paper must include a title and relevant references in any accepted reference style (APA, Harvard, Chicago, MLA, etc.).  At the Symposium authors will each give their paper for 10 minutes, followed by combined Q&A.

    Submission Site:  http://susilo2018.scholarset.com

All attendees will have numerous opportunities to explore and exchange useful, practical, and applicable ideas and practices they may implement in their businesses, classrooms, or departments.  The symposium will feature onsite visits in Beijing from which you will learn about today's cutting-edge responses in China. Symposium sessions will emphasize on interactions among practitioners and academics, ranging from keynote speeches, dialogues, panel discussions, and academic presentations on the most recent practices and research on sustainability, global ethics, and corporate responsibilities.
