PhD ASSISTANTSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

PHD PROGRAM IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AT PENN STATE HARRISBURG

Assistantships are available for full-time PhD students in public administration at Penn State University at Harrisburg, beginning the academic year 2014-2015 for up to four years of study. The assistantships will be awarded to applicants who demonstrate their ability and motivation to pursue a PhD study.

The core faculty members of the PhD program have expertise in public policy, politics, and management; public budgeting and finance; complexity, network, and governance studies; social network analysis; knowledge management and representation; socio-technical systems; transportation policy; homeland security; ethics; nonprofit management; gender and leadership; public opinion and voting behavior; and biology and politics. Applicants for the assistantships should hold a master's degree in public administration, public policy, or a related field such as business, economics, political science, or sociology. Applicants with master's degrees in other fields also will be considered.  They should submit the scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), with official verification; three letters of reference attesting to both academic and professional capabilities (at least two of the three letters should be from academic sources, such as prior professors or academic advisers); a letter outlining applicant's background and academic objectives; a recent personal vita; and a substantial academic paper written for a previous graduate course (e.g., a seminar paper).  International applicants should also submit their scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). 

Applications will be received through Penn State University's Graduate Application website: http://www.gradsch.psu.edu. Those applicants who apply for full-time study and request financial assistance will be considered for these assistantships.

Once the PhD program admission committee reviews applications, qualified applicants will be interviewed by the committee members, in-person or via the Internet, to determine the compatibility of their academic and research interests with those of the faculty members in the program. 

Application deadline:  January 30, 2014, but late applications will be considered if assistantships are still available.
