    Call for PDW Participants:

Developing Organizational Research on Financial Precarity, Inequality, and Socio-Economic Status

Organizers: Carrie Leana, Evan Gilbertson, Jirs Meuris

    Sunday, August 12, 2018 | 1:45pm – 3:45pm | Hyatt Regency Chicago, Columbus KL

    PDW Overview:

The purpose of this Professional Development Workshop is to assist organization and management scholars in developing research that considers financial precarity, economic inequality, and/or socio-economic status (SES) in their study designs.  The overall goal of the PDW is two-fold: (1) to encourage rigorous research on financial precarity, inequality and SES in organization science; and (2) to strengthen the community of organizational scholars with interest in these topics.

We have gathered leading scholars currently writing on these topics to facilitate roundtable discussions of emerging research. These include:

    ·       Paul Adler, University of Southern California

    ·       Peter Belmi, University of Virginia

    ·       Matthew Bidwell, University of Pennsylvania

    ·       Amy Colbert, University of Iowa

    ·       Jerry Davis, University of Michigan

    ·       Jennifer Kish-Gephart, University of Arkansas

    ·       Michael Kraus, Yale University

    ·       Carrie Leana, University of Pittsburgh

    ·       Sean Martin, Boston College

    ·       Kathleen McGinn, Harvard Business School

    ·       Jirs Meuris, University of Wisconsin

    ·       Taylor Phillips, NYU

    ·       Nicole Stephens, Northwestern University

    ·       Sarah Townsend, University of Southern California

We encourage researchers at all stages of their careers (doctoral students to senior faculty) to pre-register by submitting a summary describing a research question of interest or work in progress (see below for details). We will use these submissions to match participants to discussion leaders such that the conversations and feedback at the roundtables are both fruitful and relevant.

    Submission Details:

    ·       Pre-registration is required.

    ·       To receive a pre-registration code:

o   Submit a 1 to 2-page abstract describing an intended area of research or summary of ongoing research

    o   Format: double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, 1-inch margins.

    o   Send to evan.gilbertson@pitt.edu by June 15, 2018.

    ·       A maximum of 60 submissions will be accepted to accommodate space restrictions, and will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

o   Notification of acceptance and pre-registration codes will be distributed in early July.

o   Abstracts will be used to match researchers with discussion leader expertise.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Please share with potentially interested colleagues!

    Sincerely,

    Carrie Leana (leana@pitt.edu)

    Evan Gilbertson (evan.gilbertson@pitt.edu)

    Jirs Meuris (JIM30@pitt.edu)
