Academic Conference on Social Responsibility
July 15-16, 2010
Tacoma, Washington, USA
Sponsored by the Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility, Milgard School of Business at the
University of Washington in Tacoma
The growing body of research on the social and environmental impact of businesses raises new questions for scholars that span across disciplines. Much has been learned about the drivers, processes, and outcomes of responsible and irresponsible behavior, yet our knowledge is fragmented by an array of definitions, theories, approaches and conclusions that remain unconnected. This conference aims to broaden and advance the discourse on social responsibility by connecting scholars with diverse backgrounds and approaches.
The conference, aimed at scholars in multiple fields, will showcase the most current research within the disciplines and allow participants to identify points of intersection across disciplines. The framing of the conference is deliberately broad, encompassing many aspects of social responsibility at the organizational, industry and global levels. Scholars from disciplines including accounting, finance, economics, management, marketing and related fields are invited to share their research perspectives and results.
The conference will feature research presentations from participants, keynote presentations by leading scholars, and a panel discussion with journal editors. The editorial panel includes:
· R. Duane Ireland, Editor of Academy of Management Journal
· Steven J. Kachelmeier, Editor of Accounting Review
The two day conference will start at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 15th and conclude by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16th. The registration fee is $125 and includes conference materials, Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch, as well as web access to full text of all papers presented. The fee does not include lodging or transportation. A discounted hotel rate will be available to participants.
Participation by doctoral students is encouraged. The Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility will provide financial support covering registration fees and accommodations (double occupancy) for up to ten Ph.D. students.
