There is a tendency among some scholars to think of NGOs/nonprofits as "trustworthy" and firms as less trustworthy.
Going beyond the debate whether this is true, this "presumption of virtue" for the NGO/nonprofit sector creates accountability problems. For one, with low entry barriers to the NGO/nonprofit sector, anybody can establish NGOs/nonprofits. Absent stringent accountability, this market structure likely to attract bad apples as well.
