Fourth Annual Conference on Environmental Politics & Governance

Dear Colleagues:
Stockholm University and the Department of Political Science will host the Fourth Annual Conference on Environmental Politics & Governance at Rånäs Slott on June 28 to July 1, 2018. The deadline for submitting paper/poster proposals is December 1st, 2017.
Objectives:
The 2018 conference builds on the success of the 2015 conference in Seattle, Washington, the 2016 conference in Gerzensee, Switzerland, and the 2017 conference in Bloomington, Indiana. These annual conferences showcase outstanding scholarship on Environmental Politics & Governance, provide a venue for scholars to present their research, strengthen their network, and shape future Environmental Politics & Governance research across the social sciences via theoretically informed, methodologically rigorous empirical work. We want to emphasize that ALL methodologies are welcome.
We hope this and subsequent conferences will motivate Environmental Politics & Governance scholars to advance theoretical insights, work with generalizable theories, and use appropriate empirical methods and data.
Conference format:
The Environmental Politics & Governance conferences provide a venue for intensive and high-quality interactions. Consequently, previous conferences have limited the size of the conference to 32 papers. This downside is that several compelling papers could not be accommodated in the conference. Given this high level of demand for participation, the steering committee has decided to increase the size of the conference to about 42 presentations, including both papers and posters. As in previous
meetings, paper/poster proposals will be reviewed by an international steering committee (see below) via a double-blind review process.
A word about posters. Our plan is to allocate a two-hour session each day of the conference for posters. This will allow all conference participants to engage with poster presenters. Further, for each poster, we will identify two discussants who will provide feedback to authors. Scholars who have attended prior EPG conferences are strongly encouraged to voluntarily opt for posters, especially if their work is amenable to this style of presentation.
Logistics:
The 2018 conference will be held at Rånäs Slott located in the countryside outside Stockholm and with easy access from Arlanda Airport. There is no conference registration fee, and the organizers will cover food expenses for one author per accepted paper/poster. Regarding accommodation expenses, the organizers will pay for
the hotel for doctoral students and scholars from developing countries. A small amount of financial assistance is available for other scholars (especially those without grants or other sources of research funds). If you require financial assistance, please contact Andreas Duit (

There is a limited number of spaces available for co-authors, who will have to cover their own food and lodging expenses. Note that all conference participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Stockholm. The organizers will provide logistical assistance for travels between airport and conference venue. Participants should plan to arrive by late afternoon on Wednesday, June 28, 2018 and to leave on the morning of Saturday, July 1, 2018. Commitment to attend the conference for its entire
duration is essential.
Submission Process:
Paper proposals should consist of electronic submission of a PDF file that includes a detailed abstract of 1,000 words that outlines the research question, theory, data, and methods along with the contributions to the evolving field of Environmental Politics & Governance. We will consider works-in-progress only. Please do not submit published, forthcoming, or accepted work. Paper and poster proposals can be submitted to <
epg2018@su.se>. Please note that all proposals will be selected through a double-blind review process by members of the steering committee.
Time Line:
1. Proposal submission deadline: December 1st, 2017.
2. Notification of paper acceptance: January 30, 2018.
3. Arrival in Stockholm: June 28, 2018.
4. Conference begins: evening of Thursday, June 28, 2018.
5. Organized panels: Friday, June 29 and Saturday June 30, 2018.
6. Conference ends: the morning of Sunday, July 1, 2018.
