Dear Colleagues,
Apologies for cross-postings. If you have masters students interested in a Ph.D. at the intersection of business and society, please pass on the following details.
The College of Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston is currently inviting applications for the PhD track in Organizations and Social Change (OSC), within the PhD in Business Administration. We are seeking outstanding applicants with a broad interest in the role of organizations and the business-society interface. Prospective students with backgrounds in sociology, political science, business, or other relevant areas are encouraged to apply. Most applicants will hold a master's degree, but exceptional students with some prior research experience will be considered. Funding is available.
The OSC track responds to the growing interest in issues at the intersection of business and society, such as climate change, workforce diversity, economic development, governance, inequality, and globalization. Harnessing the resources and techniques of business and entrepreneurship, often in partnership with the public and non-profit sectors, is an important means to generate innovative solutions to these concerns. The interdisciplinary OSC track is distinctive among PhD programs in business schools in its explicit commitment to diverse perspectives, theories, and methodologies. The College of Management at UMass Boston is dedicated to supporting students' efforts to understand organization and social change in its complexity and in its application to real world issues.
A recent $3.1 million award from the National Science Foundation has created specific funding for two students in the OSC PhD track for students interested in topics surrounding the project: "Coasts and Communities: Natural and Human Systems in Urbanizing Environments". Please read more by following the link above.
Our current students are already actively developing, presenting, and publishing papers – and several have won awards. For a sense of engagement by students and faculty, please see our OSC blog and Facebook page for posts by faculty and students, and information regarding a recent conference in which students were very involved.
The Centers at the College of Management engage students and faculty with events and research projects. They include the Center for Sustainable Enterprise and Regional Competitiveness, the Center for Collaborative Leadership, and the Center for Entrepreneurship.
Please spread the word about our PhD program!
The application deadline is January 15, 2016.
More information about the program can be found at https://www.umb.edu/phdcmosc , including specific information on application requirements: https://www.umb.edu/academics/cm/business_administration_phd/admissions.
UMass Boston is guided by a mission of social justice and community involvement, and it is an extraordinary place to learn about how the techniques of business can be applied to address societal issues.
Regards,
Nardia
